Examples of work performed for Assistant Sous Chef:

  • Assist with the daily prep list;
  • Ensure that kitchen staff follow recipes and portion control correctly;
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area;
  • Place food and supply orders as directed by the Chef or management;
  • Receive products, verify invoices, and check freshness;
  • Train new kitchen staff as needed;
  • Perform additional duties as directed by management.

Employment Standards: Ability to use arms, hands, and fingers repetitively; communicate effectively; maintain a positive attitude; culinary training preferred but not required; knowledge of basic training techniques; awareness of health and sanitation laws; understanding of kitchen equipment maintenance; knowledge of sanitation and food handling procedures; minimum 1-year experience preferred; knowledge of safety and merchandise handling procedures.

Physical Activity Requirements: Must be able to perform stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, talking, hearing/listening, and repetitive motions. Standing 90% of the time. Heavy lifting up to 30 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally. Work environment may include exposure to cold, heat, and water.
