Shift: 10:00AM - 6:00PM

Position Summary

Assist in managing all areas of the early education program for children and families, including program leadership, educational leadership, and compliance monitoring. Responsible for the operation of the child development program in the absence of the Site Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of the center’s education plan and agency’s child development philosophy and goals.
  • Assist in developing a quality program that meets the needs of children, families, and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all city, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with site improvement/action plans as needed.
  • Manage and operate the site in the Director’s absence.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom coverage to meet teacher-child ratios.
  • Recruit, register, and enroll eligible children, including 10% with disabilities, maintaining at least a 10% waiting list.
  • Provide center tours and establish positive relationships with staff, community, and funders.
  • Develop strong, respectful, and culturally sensitive relationships with children and families.
  • Ensure a supportive environment for children’s social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.
  • Assist with lesson planning, reviews, and implementing assessments and IEPs/IFSPs.
  • Oversee efforts for serving children with disabilities, including referrals and documentation.
  • Monitor implementation of Reggio Emilia philosophy and maintain education folders.
  • Maintain compliance with NAEYC and Excelerate GOLD standards.
  • Support staff supervision, training, evaluations, and recruitment.
  • Assist with onboarding and professional development planning.
  • Ensure continuity of care in 0-3 classrooms.
  • Plan parent meetings, family events, and collaborate on field trips and special events.
  • Prepare reports and work with facilities to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Deep knowledge of best practices and developmentally appropriate practices in early education.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and work under stress.
  • Supervisory experience and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Advocacy for children and families.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Head Start, Creative Curriculum, Reggio Emilia, CLASS, and Teaching Strategies GOLD.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, early special education, or child development (birth to age 6), with Level 1 Illinois Director Credential or college credits in administration/leadership. Alternatively, related degree with relevant experience and credentials. Experience with infant-toddler programs and Gateways Infant Toddler Credential Level 5 or above preferred.

Physical & Technical Skills

Proficient in English reading and writing, able to operate word-processing systems, occasionally lift/move up to 40 pounds, and perform physical activities typical of childcare environments.
