Position SummaryThe Assistant Shop Manager (ASM) role allows you to continue developing your technical skills (approximately 80% of your time) while learning the leadership and operational skills necessary to manage a shop. This position is a critical step on the path to becoming a Shop Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform all technician duties, including draining motor oil, changing oil filters, greasing chassis fittings, washing windshields, and adjusting tire pressure
- Inspect and top off vehicle fluids
- Assist customers in selecting oil types and additional services
- Process payments for services performed
- Perform coolant exchanges and transmission drain & fill services
- Maintain inventory levels and restock supplies on the shop floor
- Keep the shop, office, and restrooms clean and organized
- Check in with customers before they leave to ensure a great experience
- Ensure proper store operation in the absence of the Shop Manager
- Perform opening and closing procedures
- Assist with inventory counting and adjustments
- Serve as a role model to other employees, supporting team culture without direct responsibility for hiring or firing

- Ability to maneuver in and out of a shallow 3-foot deep pit safely
- Physical capability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, twist, and perform manual tasks for extended periods
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
