GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads by aligning with Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that drives sales in hair and skin services. Supporting the Experience Manager, the ASM manages all aspects of the services business, including sales, guest satisfaction, events, and operational excellence, while also providing guest services directly in the salon. The role emphasizes performance, people, and process management, requiring a results-driven approach, industry passion, exceptional guest service skills, and leadership ability.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The ASM champions Ulta Beauty’s core values through the following duties:

Performance
  • Perform salon services such as haircuts, makeup, skincare analysis, and product demos.
  • Meet weekly productivity goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability to exceed sales, guest loyalty, payroll, and inventory targets.
  • Enhance profitability through operational excellence and sales growth.
  • Support and execute service events to enhance guest experience and meet sales goals.
  • Analyze financial and operational reports regularly to inform strategies.
  • Address and improve underperforming service sales metrics.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and enforce the attendance policy.
People
  • Assist in attracting, hiring, and retaining diverse top talent using various recruitment methods.
  • Build an engaged team aligned with the Ulta Beauty brand through effective communication and coaching.
  • Train and develop service professionals, providing personalized feedback and growth plans.
  • Create an inclusive environment that promotes growth and engagement.
  • Foster professional relationships with peers and brand partners to achieve shared goals.
  • Promote a culture of service excellence among leadership.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Review and respond to company communications promptly.
  • Enforce dress code and manage inventory within budget.
  • Use task management tools to prioritize store tasks.
  • Protect assets and ensure safety, inventory control, and loss prevention.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and technology adoption.
  • Assist in scheduling to optimize traffic and productivity.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Cosmetology school graduate
  • Cosmetology license or management license as required by law

Experience

  • 2-3+ years in salon management or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of state cosmetology regulations and hiring requirements
  • Experience in financial management, sales, and expense control
  • Leadership experience in talent development and team motivation

Skills

  • Proficiency in salon techniques and product knowledge
  • Technology skills (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to change
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible full-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
