Summary

The Assistant Service Manager is primarily responsible for guest relations and satisfaction. They assume store responsibility in the absence of the Store Director, Assistant Store Director, Grocery Manager, and Service Manager. They serve as Controller of cash and returned checks and assist the Service Manager in achieving front-end productivity goals while maintaining superior guest service and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and engage every guest entering the store or department.
  • Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and productivity of service counter team members, bookkeepers, maintenance, fuel clerks, floral clerks in non-floral stores, checkers, and sackers; coordinate scheduling with the Grocery Manager.
  • Manage all Service Counter functions.
  • Participate in initial interviews and new team member orientations, including documentation.
  • Supervise proper checking and bagging techniques.
  • Ensure proper bookkeeping procedures are followed.
  • Order supplies for front-end maintenance, coordinating with the Grocery Manager.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and coaching sessions, ensuring timely completion.
  • Assist with store communications and public relations initiatives, especially in stores without a Talent Relations Manager.
  • Handle payroll and accounting procedures as needed.
  • Delegate and assign trainers as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the front-end area.
  • Assist as the designated human resource manager in stores without a Talent Relations Manager.
  • Safeguard and monitor store assets, ensuring policy compliance.
  • Promote overall guest and team member safety.
  • Greet and communicate politely with customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Available to work 40 hours per week, including multiple shifts.
  • Maintain Certified Food Safety Manager certification.
  • At least one year of store experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
  • Perform physical tasks like bending, squatting, climbing, and walking.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
