Job summary

District 220 is seeking an Assistant Cook to support daily school cafeteria food production, following standardized recipes and production sheets. You will assist the Head Cook in daily operations, portion, prepare, and stage food for service, ensuring consistency and quality for students and staff.

Maintain proper food temperatures, adhere to HACCP and sanitation standards, keep work areas clean, and perform other duties as assigned in a fast-paced school environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous food service or cooking experience required.
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to follow recipes and written instructions accurately.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
• ServSafe or equivalent certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and cooking of menu items according to standardized recipes and production sheets.
• Support the Head Cook in daily food production and kitchen operations.
• Portion, prepare, and stage food for service.
• Maintain proper food temperatures and follow all food safety and sanitation procedures, including HACCP requirements.
• Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
