Job Summary
Under the close supervision of the Quarry Amphitheater General Manager, Production Manager, Senior Scene Technicians, or designated production personnel, the Assistant Scene Technician assists in the installation of elements of the various theatrical stagecraft areas (lighting, sound, scenery, rigging, props, etc.) for the realization of events at the Quarry Amphitheater.
Job Duties
90% – Technical Assistance
- Practice safe work habits and assist the crew in tasks such as unloading/loading trucks, setting up/striking staging and scenic elements, arranging stage equipment, performing maintenance functions, and running production‑related errands.
10% – Maintenance and Special Projects
- Assist in planned maintenance projects or other non‑theatrical events under the close supervision of production management or designees.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of college and/or equivalent education and/or experience.
- Familiarity with most aspects of production.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to follow directions and understand the chain of authority on stage.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a team.
- Ability to communicate professionally.
- Ability to identify and communicate safety issues; observes safe work practices.
- Ability to commit to work as scheduled.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must pass a pre‑employment criminal history background check and the employment misconduct disclosure process.
- Must work in variable temperature/weather conditions with possible exposure to strong odors, high noise and vibration, dust, and allergens.
- Must be able to ascend/descend ladders with or without accommodation.
- Must be able to sustain exposure to dusty, noisy environments and inclement weather as necessary.
- Must be able to safely lift light to moderate objects up to 60 lbs., with or without accommodation.
- Must work all scheduled hours on‑site and may work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime with little or no advance notice.
- This is a seasonal, on‑call position averaging 8–14 hours per day during productions, possibly 2–5 days in a row.
- Must maintain professional appearance and conduct suitable for a professional setting.
- Must complete training within established time frames, including UC compliance training and the University of California vaccination policy.
- Must be a mandated reporter under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and sign the required reporting acknowledgment.
Benefits Level Eligibility

Schedule Information
- Part‑time, variable.
- Percentage of time: 15%, 6 hours per week.
- Days of the week: Monday–Sunday, TBD.
- Shift includes: day, evening, night, and weekend.

One year from date of hire, with the possibility of extension.
