Job summary

JBS Foods is seeking a Safety Specialist to maintain and implement federal and state HazCom, confined space, PPE, and other safety regulations. You will identify hazards, coordinate on-site inspections, and assist with new employee training.

The role involves investigating injuries and near misses on 2nd shift, ensuring contractor compliance, and updating safety policies. A strong background in safety regulations and excellent communication are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred; experience with safety and health issues; experience may substitute.
• Knowledge of government regulations for general, chemical and construction safety; ability to communicate with local, state and federal agencies.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills; ability to interact with all levels of employees and management.
• Systems knowledge: MS Office and Outlook.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, implement and provide guidance on federal and state regulations covering HazCom, confined space entry, PPE, Lockout Tag-out, electrical safety, emergency action including Hazmat, fire prevention, industrial hygiene, machine guarding, materials handling and storage, ladders and stairways, powered industrial trucks, welding and cutting, and fall protection.
• Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace; conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe practices.
• Assist in new employee orientation and annual safety training.
• Assist supervisors in investigating all injuries and near misses during 2nd shift and report findings to Safety Manager.
• Ensure contractor personnel comply with company policies and safety requirements.
• Monitor, revise, and implement updates in safety regulations and reporting requirements.
• Participate in development of safety guidelines and health/safety communications.
• Facilitate ergonomic/safety committees as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Safety Manager.
