  • US Rowing Safe Sport or willingness to obtain prior to coaching practices.

  • 60% - Coaching: Lead assigned novice crew; collaborate with coaching staff to ensure program success; maintain a safe, productive environment; follow the safety plan; prepare rowers for on-water workouts and regatta days.
  • 15% - Offseason Workouts: Coaching on land workouts during winter months.
  • 10% - Introductory Techniques: Introduce rowing concepts and equipment to new rowers; teach novice rowers the basic stroke and refine technique.
  • 5% - Attendance: Monitor daily attendance.
  • 5% - Teamwork: Work cooperatively with team members, coaching staff, executive board members, and William & Mary Recreational Center employees.
  • 5% - Reporting: Provide progress stats on athlete performance and development with Head Coach/Program Director.

  • Serve as coach for assigned crew and work productively with the other members of the coaching staff to ensure the success of the program.
  • Work to maintain a safe and productive program environment for other staff, volunteers, and participants. Follow the team’s safety plan.
  • Provide help with boat and boat house maintenance.
  • Prepare W&M rowers for success through land training as well as on the water workouts and assist in the management of regatta days throughout the year.
  • Engage with rowers to support their learning to successfully manage rowing, academic work and other commitments.
  • Introducing rowing concepts and equipment to new rowers.
  • Teaching Novice rowers the basic stroke and improving technique.
  • Assist with monitoring daily attendance.
  • Coaching on water as well as on land workouts.
  • Work with the Head Coach/Program Director to provide required progress stats on each athlete's performance and development.
  • Exemplify the highest standard of leadership, sportsmanship and respect.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members, coaching staff, Executive board members, and W&M Recreational Center employees.

US Rowing Level 2 or higher Certification. Previous Coaching experience.

Conditions of Employment

This is a non-exempt position, which may be eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year. This position is restricted based on the availability of funding.
