About the Gateway Program

Movement is building diverse routesetting teams that represent our communities. The Gateway positions offer individuals interested in routesetting a chance to learn our process and support our production. This role is designed for applicants with little to no setting experience. We encourage everyone interested in routesetting to apply.

We plan to hire for our Plano and Hill locations. Each Gateway team member may perform Hold Washing and Forerunning tasks based on facility needs. These are temporary roles lasting approximately 3 months, with potential future opportunities. The roles typically involve 2-6 hours weekly, in 2-3 hour shifts, reporting to the Assistant Director of Setting or Head Routesetter, responsible for managing workflow efficiently.

About Hold Washing

When scheduled for Hold Washing, you'll perform maintenance tasks with the setting team, gaining insight into the routesetting process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Adhering to safety expectations
  • Washing holds with power washers
  • Assisting in zone prep and cleanup
  • Sorting holds, bolts, screws, and materials

This is not an Apprentice Routesetting role and does not include work-at-height tasks.

About Forerunning

When forerunning, you'll assess climbs for fairness, consistency, and quality, learning about Movement's setting standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Following safety protocols
  • Assisting in zone prep and cleanup
  • Learning routesetting quality criteria
  • Climbing and testing routes
  • Sorting materials
  • Climbing to evaluate routes
  • Being receptive to feedback

This role does not include work-at-height tasks. Additional tasks may be assigned.
