Job description

About the unit

This 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit primarily cares for post-open heart/CABG patients. Post-op CABG patients recover in the ICU for 2-3 days. The patient population includes cardiac procedures requiring ICU care, open-heart patients directly from the OR, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, TAVR procedures, and STEMI interventions. RNs care for patients requiring ventilator support, SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high-alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 for regular ICU patients, 1:1 for high acuity, and may be 1:3 depending on staffing and patient acuity.

Scope of work

Under the supervision of the nurse manager or nursing leader, the assistant nurse manager is responsible for implementing the hospital’s and nursing department’s philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures, and their impact on patient care.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in nursing (ADN) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or Master's preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant nursing experience required.
  • Participation in leadership activities (e.g., shared governance, precepting, charge nurse) preferred.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support certification required.
