Assistant Research Security Officer, CUI Manager

About the Role

The Assistant Research Security Officer, CUI Manager is responsible for ensuring the OVPR's role in maintaining institutional compliance with Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) regulations, including NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and other federal mandates. This role involves developing security policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure proper management of CUI within university research activities. The position also supports broader research security initiatives, collaborates with IT on cloud security policies, and serves on the campus CUI Committee to align security controls with federal standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or related discipline.
• Five years of experience in research security, cybersecurity compliance, or information security roles.
• Strong knowledge of NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and federal CUI regulations.
• Experience with cloud security solutions, especially AWS cloud environments.
• Excellent communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience implementing AWS GovCloud or other secure cloud research platforms.
• Prior experience in higher education research security.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CMMC Assessor, or equivalent credentials.

Other Requirements

• Valid driver's license during employment.
• Occasional travel for security briefings, compliance training, and federal agency coordination.
