Position Summary
The New Materials Institute invites applications for an Assistant Research Scientist position (9 month, non-tenure track) in polymer science. The position is within the New Materials Institute administered through the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia.
The major responsibilities for this position are to conduct research associated with the development and validation of biopolymer formulations that will meet the functional specifications of products of interest to our research sponsors. In addition to managing one of our biopolymer formulation teams, the chosen Assistant Research Scientist will also work with a multi-disciplined team of faculty, staff and students within the New Materials Institute to succeed in research objectives defined by the grant sponsor. The chosen candidate will also be expected to assist in the writing and submitting grants to help fund the salary, benefits and project expenses for the Assistant Research Scientist position as well as students and technicians with the research group. The Assistant Research Scientist will also publish research findings that are not restricted by sponsor confidentiality agreements.
The successful candidate will join the New Materials Institute currently consisting of five full-time faculty members (tenured and non-tenured), 8 staff and approximately 6 graduate and undergraduate students. For all candidates, salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience, qualifications and the personnel budget from the grant supporting the position.
Additional Requirements
Post-doctoral training in polymer science with an emphasis on the formulation of biopolymers for use in extrusion and melt blown applications.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Demonstrated expertise in working with multi-disciplined teams
of scientists in the research and development of biopolymer formulations and products with specific functional attributes is preferred.
