Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City is seeking an Assistant Purchaser to support procurement across the project life cycle, including material orders and vendor follow-up for shipment and delivery.

The role involves preparing procurement documents, evaluating bids, creating and submitting POs, and assisting with supplier qualification and cost analysis. A Bachelor’s in a related field or equivalent internship experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience may substitute for degree.
  • Previous internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Oracle Financial R12 experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in purchasing responsibilities throughout the project life cycle, including ordering materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Follow through with vendors on shipment and delivery and log order acknowledgments.
  • Prepare procurement documents and agreements for materials needed to execute project deliverables.
  • Assist in vendor bid evaluations of proposals and technical evaluations.
  • Prepare purchase orders and submit PO information into online purchasing application for approval.
  • Submit purchase orders to vendors/subcontractors and obtain order acknowledgments.
  • Assist in expediting vendor submittals to support design and delivery of equipment and materials for construction.
  • Prepare procurement status reports and expediting reports.
  • Assist in sourcing and qualifying potential suppliers to provide required goods or services.
  • Assist in preparing procurement packages to engineering and project specifications.
  • Verify supplier pricing, quantity, reliability and industry experience.
  • Assist with compiling RFP documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Research pricing information, compare prices and quotations.
  • Compile and present cost comparison and analysis.
  • Assist with Project Procurement Status Material Status Reports.

Description

  • Assist with compiling "Request for Proposal" (RFP) documents including documents, drawings and specifications.

  • Research pricing information, compare prices and quotations.

  • Compile and present cost comparison and analysis.

  • Assist with Project Procurement Status Material Status Reports.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management, Law or Construction related field required.

  • Or applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
