Job summary

The Office of the Ohio Public Defender (OPD) is seeking an Assistant Public Defender in the Northwest Regional Hub located in Lima, OH. The APD will represent indigent clients in misdemeanor and felony cases in local courts within Allen, Hardin, and Putnam counties, primarily Allen Municipal Court.

This role emphasizes high-quality representation in a fast-paced, team-based environment. Admission to the Ohio bar is required.

Qualifications

• Admission to Ohio bar pursuant to section 4705.01.
• Notes on eligibility to practice in courts per rules may be accepted in lieu of admission.

Responsibilities

• Prepare cases for trial.
• Try cases as lead counsel or co-counsel.
• Represent clients in community control violations.
• Conduct pre-trial conferences, hearings, and plea negotiations.
• Examine witnesses.
• Present legal arguments and evidence.
