Job summary

Newaygo County Prosecuting Attorney is seeking an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to join the legal team. The office handles criminal matters within District, Circuit, and Probate Courts and supports three attorneys and five legal secretaries.

Qualifications

• Education: Law degree from an accredited law school.
• Experience: One year of criminal law experience.
• Other Requirements: Licensed to practice law in Michigan. Valid Michigan Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Review criminal warrant requests from law enforcement; determine grounds for warrants.
• Research and prepare criminal cases for trial and related proceedings; interview witnesses and victims.
• Appear in court for arraignments, motions, trials, and sentencing; handle jury selection and examination of witnesses.
• Provide legal advice to officers and staff; ensure investigations meet professional and judicial standards.
• Draft motions, briefs and other court documents for Circuit Court and higher courts.
