Job summary

Vortex Companies, LLC in Hudson, IA, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support front-end project execution on underground infrastructure projects. You will help with pre-bid activities, bid submissions, contract administration, and day-to-day project tracking in a fast-paced field-and-office environment.

The role emphasizes organization, proactive communication, and collaboration with Project Managers and Operations to keep schedules on track and budgets under control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in construction management, engineering, or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in construction, utilities, or infrastructure projects preferred.
• Exposure to underground utilities, pipeline, or industrial projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pre-bid activities, including document review, scope coordination, and bid preparation.
• Set up and maintain project files, ensuring documentation is organized and accessible.
• Support estimating by gathering quantities, vendor quotes, and subcontractor info.
• Assist with bid submissions and ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate.
• Support onboarding of projects into internal systems and ensure proper job setup.
• Monitor project budgets and assist cost tracking, flagging variances as they arise.
• Review invoices, change orders, and cost estimates for alignment with scope.
• Track submittals, RFIs, permits, and other project documentation.
• Coordinate between field crews, customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
