Job summary

Cumming Group is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support a high-profile life sciences project in Foster City, CA. The role focuses on on-site coordination with a strong MEP foundation and the growth of an early-career construction professional within ownership representation.

You will work under the Project Manager to assist with scheduling, QA/QC, documentation, and coordination with government agencies, ensuring project milestones are met in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or MEP-related engineering.
• 2+ years of experience supporting construction projects, ideally in life sciences or similarly complex environments.
• Strong understanding of MEP systems, construction processes, and project documentation.
• Ability to work onsite in Foster City, CA.

Responsibilities

• Assist the project management team with constructability reviews, value engineering, pay apps, and scheduling.
• Help formulate design, bid, and project phase scheduling.
• Assist in addenda and bid processes and conduct pre-bid meetings.
• Monitor contract compliance and prepare site meeting minutes.
• Support QA/QC, change order reviews, RFIs/submittals, and As-Built drawings.

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team supporting a high-profile life sciences client in Foster City, CA. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a long-term project team working on complex, technically sophisticated facilities in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for an early-career construction professional with a strong MEP foundation who is ready to take the next step in their career and gain valuable experience representing an owner throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist the project management team with various parts of the project such as constructability review, value engineering, pay app reviews, schedule development, FF&E program development and execution.
• Assist in formulating the design, bid, and project phase of scheduling.
• Assist in the Addenda and Bid process.
• Under supervision of Project Manager, conduct pre-bid and job start meetings.
• Monitor contract compliance and report concerns to Project Manager.
• Under the supervision of Project Manager, facilitate job site meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
• Oversee approvals from applicable government agencies are received and documented.
• Under supervision of Project Manager, conduct close out activities and assist with building occupancy.
• Prepares field reporting for review by Project Manager.
• Perform QA/QC process.
• Review change orders for completeness and conformance to company and client standards.
• Review RFIs/Submittals for completeness before distribution to design team.
• Provide basic CPM scheduling and budget management.
• Review and maintain As Built drawings.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Attendance at work during normal business hours.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or another MEP-related engineering discipline.
• Experience: 2+ years of experience supporting construction projects, ideally within life sciences, biotech, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, or other technically complex environments.
• Strong understanding of MEP systems, construction processes, project documentation, and coordination.
• Must be able to work onsite in Foster City, CA.
