The Assistant Project Manager (APM) at a fire prevention company supports the execution of fire protection and prevention systems projects. The APM works closely with the project management team, field staff, and clients to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality and safety standards. Focus areas include fire sprinkler and hood & duct systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Sprinkler and Kitchen Projects Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing projects from start to finish, including scheduling, budgeting, and daily operations.
- Coordinate with clients, building managers, fire officials, and installation crews for smooth project execution.
- Review system designs, blueprints, and installation plans for compliance with regulations and standards.
- Manage procurement of materials and equipment.
- Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and ensure timely completion.
- Communicate project status effectively to all stakeholders, including reporting to the Fire Alarm Project Manager.
- Participate in site visits to ensure quality, code compliance, and safety.
- Track budgets, expenses, and ensure financial adherence.
- Assist with invoicing and payments to contractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation and reports.
- Support quality control procedures and compliance with fire safety regulations.
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation solutions.
- Contribute to improving project management processes.
- Ensure proper archiving of all project documentation.
- Prepare regular project status updates.
- Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in project management, Engineering, or related field.
- 1-2 years of experience in project management, preferably in fire protection or construction.
- Knowledge of fire prevention systems, including alarms and sprinkler systems.
- Experience with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Procore).
- Prior experience in fire alarm industry is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Certifications (optional but preferred):
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or APM
- Fire Protection certifications (e.g., NICET, Fire Alarm System Design)
Physical Requirements:
- Moderate physical activity such as lifting, climbing ladders, or working in confined spaces.
