Job description

Assistant Project Manager / Field Coordinator – Utility & Telecom Construction

We are seeking a highly organized and technically capable Assistant Project Manager / Field Coordinator to support our turnkey communications infrastructure operations. This role is a strict 50/50 split between field and office work. You will act as the critical bridge between our project management office and active field crews performing utility trenching and horizontal directional drilling (HDD). The ideal candidate must be highly comfortable handling construction data in Excel, managing structural documentation in PDF format, and reading/interpreting engineering plans via DWG and DWF mapping viewers.

Key Responsibilities
Office & Technical Support (50%)
  • Data & Tracking: Maintain and update daily production trackers, bore logs, and footage sheets using Microsoft Excel.
  • Plan & Mapping Management: Review, open, and interpret utility alignment plans using DWG/DWF CAD viewers and PDF software to confirm drilling paths and conflict points.
  • Permitting & Compliance: Manage the lifecycle of Blue Stakes of Utah (811) tickets, submit municipal right-of-way (ROW) permits, and track traffic control plan approvals.
  • Turnkey Closeouts: Compile field redlines, bore telemetry, and GPS data into clean PDF as-built packages for final client delivery.
Field & Site Coordination (50%)
  • Site Inspections & Verification: Visit active jobsites to verify trenching depths, bore paths, and confirm that field conditions match our DWG design plans.
  • Subcontractor & Crew Liaison: Coordinate daily schedules with drill operators, excavation crews, and restoration teams to keep timelines tight.
  • Material Logistics: Track real-time inventory on-site, ensuring conduit, fiber vaults, and handholes are delivered ahead of schedule.
  • Safety & Restoration Checks: Ensure crews follow safety protocols and document that post-construction restoration meets city standards.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Software Proficiency: Strong skills in Microsoft Excel (formulas, data entry) and Adobe/Bluebeam PDF editing.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read and navigate DWG and DWF files (AutoCAD/Design Review) to reference utility maps and property lines.
  • Industry Familiarity: Basic understanding of underground utility construction, horizontal directional boring, or telecom infrastructure is highly preferred.

Logistics & Communication: Valid Utah driver’s license with clean record (for travel to local job sites). Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate between office managers and field foremen.
