Job summary

Balfour Beatty US is seeking an Assistant Project Manager with Mission Critical experience for the Large Projects Group in Dallas, TX. This role supports the Project Manager in managing all administrative and technical requirements for construction projects, ensuring quality, profitability, and alignment with our Safety/Zero Harm culture.

The candidate will assist with preconstruction, scheduling, and project administration, including budgeting, bid packages, and subcontractor management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience working on data centre projects of various sizes.
  • Experience with project‑management software (Procore, P6, etc.).
  • Experience with cost projection, financial analysis, budget reviews, labor reports.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or similar construction application(s).
  • Prioritizes and delegates multiple responsibilities to others.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Manager to determine resources needed – people, tools, equipment, materials and internal services for each project and decide how and when those needs will be met.
  • Assist Project Manager with construction schedule and create an organization and responsibilities matrix at the start of each project.
  • Assist with creating and managing project budgets.
  • Assist in preparing bid packages and subcontract scopes of work; set up subcontractor pre‑work meetings, keep minutes and follow up.
  • Comply with owner contract requirements such as bonds, fees, notifications, schedules, reporting, and costs.
  • Attend all mandatory planning, progress, and close‑out meetings with project staff and key stakeholders regarding project concerns, problems, and unexpected situations.
  • Compare progress to schedule, compare actual versus estimated cost, check compliance with plans and specifications, review any issues, and verify the quality of work meets contract specifications and company guidelines.
  • Complete a time‑impact analysis for each change proposal for submittal to the owner; coordinate with Project Manager and Scheduling Director.
  • Manage the project close‑out process to settle all financial obligations, demobilize resources, and transition the project to the customer.

Job Summary

This individual will work on high‑profile projects in the DFW market and will assist the Project Manager in managing all administrative and technical requirements for construction projects, ensuring quality, profitability, and adherence to our Safety/Zero Harm culture.

Essential Functions
  • Assist Project Manager to determine resources needed – people, tools, equipment, materials and internal services for each project and decide how and when those needs will be met.
Preconstruction Coordination
  • Assist with preconstruction services to prepare, review, and monitor information and reports related to all costs involved in assigned projects.
  • Assist Project Manager with construction schedule and create an organization and responsibilities matrix at the start of each project.
  • Assist with creating and managing project budgets.
  • Assist in preparing bid packages and subcontract scopes of work; set up subcontractor pre‑work meetings, keep minutes and follow up.
  • Comply with owner contract requirements such as bonds, fees, notifications, schedules, reporting, and costs.
Project Scheduling
  • Assist Project Manager in defining responsibilities for processing submittals, including taking ownership of more difficult trades in cases of limited staff.
  • Confirm all required paperwork from subcontractors and suppliers is completed at appropriately designated times.
  • Establish relationships and communication tools with suppliers and key personnel to verify that materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and personnel are obtained and delivered on time.
  • Ensure project sites and company assets are secure, maintaining a safe and respectful working environment through safety, EEO, risk‑management, training, and quality‑control programs.
  • Communicate with all suppliers and subcontractors to ensure they understand performance standards; coordinate with Project Manager for appropriate actions if performance problems occur.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience working on data centre projects of various sizes.

  • Experience with cost projection, financial analysis, budget reviews, labor reports.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or similar construction application(s).
Experience and Knowledge
  • Prioritizes and delegates multiple responsibilities to others.
  • Supervises and develops direct reports to assess and build talent.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills with the ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, motivate others, and sell new business.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
Preferred Experience
  • Data centre project experience.
  • Local candidate preferred, but not required.
  • College education in Construction Management/Engineering.
