Summary of Responsibilities:

The Assistant Project Manager, Construction assists with construction projects from beginning to end, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. The Assistant Project Manager, Construction helps to control the time, cost and quality of construction projects, including residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicates directly with contractors/designers concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling
  • Prepares project status reports and works to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications
  • Negotiates with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best price and delivery schedule
  • Responsible for selecting subcontractors and negotiating the terms of their contracts
  • Prepares reports that include cost overruns, workplace injuries, issues with trade unions and the causes of construction delays
  • Plans and coordinates all aspects of the construction process, including hiring contractors and working with engineers, architects and vendors
  • Determines what permits are necessary and ensures that they are obtained.
  • Reviews the budget for the project and prepares a detailed plan to allocate the funds by stage or by labor, materials and contingencies
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Understanding of the construction business and the ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organization & time management skills
  • Ability to recognize and address appropriate issues/tasks/responsibilities/requests

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or other related field from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of Two (2) to Three (3) years related experience
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of general workflow and processes for the construction buildings projects
  • Proven track record of timely delivery of construction projects within budget
  • Effective negotiation and mediation skills
  • Experienced in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
