The Mice Groups, Inc. is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of mechanical and plumbing construction projects in Thousand Oaks, CA.

The role focuses on budgets, billing, scheduling, change orders, and subcontractor coordination under a Project Manager's guidance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of construction experience in the plumbing and/or mechanical trades.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field strongly preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong Project Engineer-level experience with the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of construction practices including safety, productivity factors, project delays, claims, liens/stop notices, back charges, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and Bluebeam.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, products, and equipment.
  • Experience with monthly billing and cash-flow projections.
  • Experience with pricing, quantity take-offs, and change orders.
  • Experience running a smaller project autonomously under the supervision of a Project Manager.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor others.

  • Develop and maintain project schedule trackers.
  • Prepare monthly billings and cash-flow projections.
  • Create and track project budgets and Schedule of Values.
  • Identify scope changes, perform material and quantity take-offs, price changes, and prepare change orders.
  • Prepare, issue, track, and negotiate change orders.
  • Manage project buyouts, Purchase Orders, subcontract agreements, and vendor/subcontractor scopes.
  • Monitor subcontractor agreements and address project-related issues.
  • Prepare and distribute project operations and maintenance manuals at closeout.
  • Lead project meetings and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Develop manpower, labor, and billing projections.
  • Review project progress and percentage complete with Foremen and assist with labor projections.
  • Maintain understanding of project schedules, sequencing, and crew flow.
  • Prepare and lead project kick-off meetings.
  • Attend jobsite and project meetings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, General Contractors, subcontractors, owners, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Mentor less-experienced project team members.
  • Meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities and time constraints.
  • Follow safety practices and participate in safety training.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support the planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of mechanical and plumbing construction projects.


The APM should have a strong understanding of the Project Engineer role and be capable of managing multiple projects while taking on increasing responsibility for project budgets, billing, scheduling, change orders, subcontractors, and project financials.


This role will work closely with Project Managers, Field Staff, General Contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and clients and may independently manage smaller projects under the guidance of a Project Manager.

Requirements

  • Hangers and seismic

  • Advanced knowledge of plumbing systems, including:

  • Gravity and pressure systems

  • Medical gas and lab gas systems

  • Plumbing finishes and ADA requirements

  • Understanding of project startup, maintenance procedures, project schedules, sequencing of work, and crew flow.

  • Working knowledge of detailing and fabrication schedules.

  • Experience with monthly billing and cash-flow projections.

  • Experience with pricing, quantity take-offs, and change orders.

  • Experience running a smaller project autonomously under the supervision of a Project Manager.

  • Comfortable interacting with professionals at all levels, both internally and externally.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor others.

  • Team-oriented with a positive, proactive approach to safety and project execution.
