Heavy Civil Construction – NCDOT / Public Works

Location: Pittsboro, NC

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager to join our growing team and build a long-term career in public infrastructure construction.

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) provides administrative and technical support to the Project Manager and field team on North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and public works projects. This role is designed for individuals beginning their construction management career and offers hands‑on exposure to project controls, contract administration, scheduling, cost tracking, and agency coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily project administration and documentation
  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents
  • Support quantity tracking and unit price contract management
  • Help prepare submittals, RFIs, and material certifications
  • Assist with change order preparation and cost tracking
  • Support monthly pay applications and quantity reporting to NCDOT agencies
  • Maintain organized project files and compliance documentation
  • Coordinate with superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors
  • Attend project meetings and prepare meeting minutes
  • Assist with project closeout documentation including as‑builts and final quantities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorʼs degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
  • 0-2 years of experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, or commercial construction (internships encouraged to apply)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Viewpoint, HCSS, Primavera P6) is a plus
  • Basic understanding of NCDOT/public works projects preferred but not required
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
