Job summary

Owen‑Ames‑Kimball Co. in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

You will collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and stakeholders to maintain schedules, control costs, and ensure quality and safety across the lifecycle. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and has 3–6 years of GC experience, with strong communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or preferred in related field.
• 3–6 years experience in commercial construction with a GC.
• Knowledge of means/methods, schedules, contracts, and docs. (building process)

Responsibilities

• Assist with preconstruction activities, bidding, subcontracting, and procurement
• Coordinate project documentation including RFIs, submittals, schedules, cost logs, and meeting notes
• Support field and office teams by communicating schedule updates, material needs, and design clarifications
• Track project progress, milestones, and cost projections; support job cost reviews
• Review drawings and specifications to identify issues requiring clarification
• Help manage change orders, pay applications, and budget updates
• Participate in quality reviews, site walks, and safety coordination efforts
• Support project closeout by assembling warranties, punch lists, and turnover documentation

What we’re looking for

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred)
• 3–6 years of experience supporting commercial construction projects with a general contractor
• Working knowledge of construction means and methods, schedules, contracts, and documentation processes
• Strong communication, organization, and coordination skills
• A team‑oriented mindset with a focus on safety, quality, and client service
