Job summary

Lightsource bp is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support planning, procurement coordination, and contract supervision for utility-scale solar projects. The role collaborates with project managers and cross-functional teams to ensure on-time delivery and budget adherence.

The position offers a hybrid work model (three days in office) and opportunities to interact with engineers, procurement, and finance teams across multiple projects, including potential travel.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Utility-scale solar experience required.
  • Additional experience with electrical systems and wiring strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill company quality goals on assigned projects.
  • Ensure 100% customer satisfaction on assigned projects.
  • Support the design and construction process management for all assigned projects.
  • Manage cost and schedule goals through project closeout.
  • Create, oversee, and track all schedule aspects from pre-approval to closeout.
  • Leverage knowledge of delivery milestones to reduce construction costs.
  • Coordinate and process purchase orders, invoices, payments, and draw requests.
  • Assist in generating regular reports for management and clients.
  • Update internal budgeting and cost expenditure reports.
  • Oversee document management for assigned projects.
  • Support compliance, safety, and performance on all projects.
  • Facilitate communication among consultants, contractors, and third parties, including RFIs, submittals, and reviews.
  • Conduct safety and quality site walks.
  • Monitor field housekeeping for safety compliance.
  • Support oversight of multiple suppliers and contractors.
  • Represent the company to customers, permitting agencies, and project personnel.
  • Oversee bill of materials, ordering, logistics, and project schedule.
  • Maintain familiarity with engineering drawings, interconnection agreements, and PPAs.

Summary

The Assistant Project Manager is a key member of the project team, responsible for supporting the planning, procurement coordination, monitoring, and supervision of contracts throughout the engineering, permitting, procurement, construction, and commissioning process for utility-scale solar projects.

This role may manage external engineers, contractors, and suppliers under the direction of a more senior Project Manager and may support multiple small projects or one large project. The Assistant Project Manager works closely with Project Managers, Directors, and internal design, administration, finance, and supply chain teams to help ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for fulfilling Company quality goals on assigned projects.
  • Responsible for ensuring 100% customer satisfaction on assigned projects.
  • Support the management of the system design and construction process for all assigned projects.
  • Support the management of cost and schedule goals for assigned projects through project closeout.
  • Create, oversee, and track all schedule aspects for assigned projects, from pre-approval through project closeout, to help ensure on-time delivery.
  • Leverage knowledge of system delivery milestones to capture reduced construction costs wherever possible.
  • Coordinate and process purchase orders, invoices, payment applications, and draw requests.
  • Assist in the generation of regular reporting to internal management teams and external clients.
  • Update internal budgeting and cost expenditure reports.
  • Oversee document management for assigned projects.
  • Support compliance, safety, and performance on all assigned projects.
  • Facilitate communication between consultants, contractors, and third parties for interrelated scopes and necessary coordination, including RFIs, submittals, and engineering review.
  • Conduct safety and quality site walks.
  • Monitor field housekeeping activities for compliance with job safety requirements and standards.
  • Support oversight of multiple suppliers, consultants, contractors, and temporary leased installation labor.
  • Serve as a corporate representative to the customer, permitting agencies, contractors, and other project personnel.
  • Oversee bill of materials, material ordering, logistics, and project schedule.
  • Maintain familiarity with engineering drawing sets, project scopes of work, interconnection agreements, and power purchase agreements.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong familiarity with the utility-scale solar project lifecycle, engineering, equipment, construction means and methods, and key stakeholders.
  • Computer savvy, with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); MS Project is required.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization, as well as external customers and vendors.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus.
  • Organizational skills to manage time effectively, prioritize work, and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently, often on short notice.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Utility-scale solar experience required.
  • Additional experience with electrical systems and wiring strongly preferred.
Experience
  • Strong technical, supervisory, and project management skills based on construction industry experience.
  • HV substation and/or general contracting experience preferred.
  • Proven ability to successfully procure, monitor, and assess subcontracted construction functions such as electrical contractors and commercial roofers.
