Job summary

CAMBA seeks an Assistant Program Director for its Brooklyn location. You will understand contract requirements, coordinate with shelters and external agencies, and set performance targets to meet DHS standards.

You will supervise staff, prepare reports, analyze data, and organize training to improve services for residents in need.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of applicable experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Understand all aspects of contract requirements and communicate this understanding to staff.
  • Communicate with peers in other CAMBA shelters and external agencies on client progress and best practices.
  • Set realistic weekly and monthly performance targets in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Observe direct reporting staff engaging with clients and/or supervisory staff.
  • Conduct periodic internal file review and implement quality assurance measures to ensure quality service delivery to clients.
  • Assist the Vice President in providing oversight for all aspects of the program in his/her absence.
  • Prepare reports and statistical information for CAMBA management and funder use.
  • Assist in analysis of program and demographic client data to make programmatic improvements.
  • Organize onsite and offsite training opportunities for professional development of staff.
  • Confer with the Program Director and/or other CAMBA management staff regarding programmatic and personnel issues.
  • Ensure and maintain regulatory standards (DoH, OTDA, DHS, Coalition for the Homeless) are in compliance.
  • Plan and organize program activities to maximize contract goals and performance targets (DHS DPI).
  • Develop program content to address residents’ needs related to ADL, Time Management, Critical Thinking, shelter rules.
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate social/peer support and ADL events.
  • Troubleshoot client and staff program problems and make decisions per policies.
  • Develop and implement crisis prevention/intervention strategies to ensure safety.
  • Provide assistance for critical incidents with clients.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors to ensure service delivery and quality.
  • Liaise with community leaders to build connections and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure staff use of electronic databases and oversee data integrity.
  • Conduct one-on-one supervision to assess and improve performance.
  • Review and sign time sheets.
  • Prepare performance appraisals for staff.
  • Attend staff/funder/outside agent meetings as requested.
  • Immediately report to Program Director/VP any monitoring visits or significant events.
  • Complete incident, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication and regular staff meetings.

Education

We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
CAMBA operates 6 single adult shelters and 6 family shelters and one drop in center. Each shelter offers clients a supportive, structured therapeutic, safe, and drug-free facility. Homeless (often mentally-ill and substance-abusing) men and women are provided with comprehensive services to stabilize their condition in order to successfully transition into to permanent and/or supported housing.
CAMBA’s Flagstone Family Center provides comprehensive case management services to 160 families who are in a Tier II transitional residence program for homeless families. The facility consists of eight (8) four (4) story walk up apartment buildings on the east and west sides of the street. There will be two main entrances: one for the east side of the street and one for the west. Each building contains 20 apartments of varying sizes, each fully self-contained.

What The Assistant Program Director Does

  • Conduct periodic internal file review and implement Quality Assurance measures as needed to ensure quality service delivery to clients (i.e.-address and investigate client complaints).
  • Assist the Vice President in providing oversight for all aspects of the program in his/her absence.
  • Prepare reports and statistical information for both CAMBA management and funder use.
  • Assist in the analysis of program and demographic client data to make programmatic improvements.
  • Organize onsite and offsite training opportunities for professional development of staff.
  • Confer with the Program Director, and/or other CAMBA management staff as needed regarding programmatic and personnel issues.
  • Ensure and maintain all regulatory agencies (i.e.-Dept. of Health, OTDA, DHS, Coalition for the Homeless) standards are in compliance (related to emergency supplies, linen, personal belongings, client mail, laundry, personal care items, etc.).
  • Plan and organize program activities to maximize program contract's goals and performance targets as outlined in DHS’ Performance Incentive Plan.
  • Develop program content to address residents needs related to ADL, Time Management, Critical Thinking, shelter rules and regulations .
  • Plan, coordinate and facilitate social/peer support and ADL events.
  • Troubleshoot client and direct reporting staff program problems and make decisions in accordance with program policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Develop and implement crisis prevention and/or intervention strategies to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Provide assistance and follow-up in regards to critical incidents with clients.
  • Liaison with sub-contractors to ensure appropriate service delivery and quality.
  • Liaison with community leaders and groups to build connections, gain support and troubleshoot issues/concerns.
  • Ensure staff utilization of electronic database and conduct oversight to ensure data integrity.
  • Conduct and document one-on-one supervision of direct reporting staff to assess and improve work performance (i.e. identify training needs, professional development, etc.).
  • Review and sign time sheets.
  • Prepare performance appraisals for direct reporting staff.
  • Attend staff/funder/outside agent meetings as requested.
  • Immediately report to the appropriate Program Director/Vice-President any: monitoring visits or funders' events; significant events; any incident that might subject CAMBA to liability.
  • Complete incident reports, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication and conduct regular staff/departmental meetings.
Minimum Education/Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) and two years of applicable experience and/or equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
  • Ability to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Compensation

$70,000-$75,000 annually

When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.

Status:

Full-time (35 hours per week)
