Location: Amber Hall, Bronx, NY

Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000

Position Type: Full-time, exempt with a regular daytime schedule, on-call responsibilities shared with the Senior Program Director. Work schedules may vary based on operational needs.

Objective:

Amber Hall in Bronx, NY, offers 85 supportive housing units for individuals facing mental health challenges, substance abuse issues, or chronic illnesses, transitioning out of homelessness. These units are funded by HASA.

The Assistant Program Director (APD) requires expertise in service delivery, especially within mental health systems, supervisory and administrative skills, and the ability to coordinate services for clients. The role demands attention to detail, strong communication, computer literacy, and a passion for supporting this population with trauma-informed, creative programming and community engagement. Experience with HASA-funded contracts is essential.

The APD supervises Case Managers, develops team clinical skills, and ensures high-quality, compliant services that promote housing stability and quality of life. The role involves fostering a culture of respect, equity, belonging, and justice within the program.

Essential Functions:

  1. Supervise and coach case management staff
  2. Support staff development and training
  3. Review documentation to ensure quality care
  4. Conduct chart reviews and analyze dashboards and reports
  5. Assist in policy development and outcomes tracking
  6. Facilitate clinical and staff meetings
  7. Support treatment planning and safety assessments
  8. Coordinate community resources and referrals
  9. Manage supervision plans and reporting standards
  10. Promote harm reduction approaches
  11. Identify training needs and support staff engagement
  12. Support clients in maintaining housing and understanding lease terms
  13. Collaborate with property management and support services teams
  14. Develop client-centered groups and programs
  15. Hire, train, and manage staff disciplinary processes
  16. Participate in and co-facilitate various meetings
  17. Assess client risks and support crisis de-escalation
  18. Manage incident reports and funder compliance
  19. Assist in program management during the Program Director’s absence
  20. Complete reports as required

Education and Experience:

  • MSW or MHC from an accredited institution (license required within one year)
  • At least one year of supervisory experience in social services
  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use, and homeless populations
  • Experience with OMH, DOHMH, HASA contracts and regulations
  • Strong trauma-informed clinical skills and team collaboration
  • Commitment to harm reduction models
  • Initiative, judgment, and ability to prioritize
  • Independent work ethic with integrity and teamwork skills
  • Experience with databases and reporting tools
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Values of equity, belonging, and justice integrated into practice

Additional Experience:

  • LMSW/LMHC preferred
  • Experience managing property relationships in supportive housing
  • Facilitation of clinical groups
  • Budget management skills
  • Familiarity with evidence-based models like Motivational Interviewing
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus

Work Environment: Supportive housing site serving individuals with mental health, addiction, HIV, and chronic illnesses.

Physical Demands: Regularly standing, walking, sitting, stooping, climbing stairs, and kneeling. Using hands for typing and handling objects. Occasional lifting up to 5 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and focus adjustment.
