Organizational Role
  • Supervisor: Program Director
  • Hours: 35 Hours Mon‑Friday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Compensation: $24.00–$26.50
Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Assistant Director provides site-based leadership to support positive youth development and outcomes and meets the needs of families and the school community. The Assistant Director will bring a positive youth development lens to the role; ensure compliance with all licensing and funder requirements; maintain program data and records; create systems to effectively manage program logistics and operations; hold themselves and others accountable for program results. In addition to supporting all programmatic offerings and completing any tasks deemed necessary by the Program Director, essential duties and responsibilities are:

Administrative Support, Compliance, & Implementation
  • Support the smooth and effective functioning of the program.
  • Provide direct support and supervision to program staff and participants.
  • Recruit and register participants to meet enrollment targets.
  • Attend required OCFS and DOH/SACC meetings, training, and conferences.
  • Meet and document required 30 hours of SACC training every two years.
  • Work closely with FDC administration to provide updated OCFS policies, new data, current trends, and program changes.
  • Ensure that all DYCD/OCFS performance targets are met and activities occur in accordance with the DYCD work plan.
  • Maintain participant files in compliance with DYCD, OCFS, and DOH requirements.
  • Assist the Program Director in completing required reports and preparing/reviewing timesheets bi‑weekly for payroll.
Youth Development
  • Apply principles of positive youth development through behavior management and discipline techniques that foster social, emotional, and cognitive growth and build self‑esteem and responsibility.
  • Build positive relationships with participants and serve as a role model.
Program Development
  • Assist in creating program schedules and enrolling participants while respecting choice and performance targets.
  • Use formal program feedback to improve program design.
  • Organize and implement special projects, events, and field trips.
  • Ensure all academic, social, cultural, vocational, and recreational components of the program are delivered effectively and consistently with the curriculum.
  • Assist with hiring, supervision, and scheduling of program staff.
  • Schedule and hold regular meetings with staff, partners, and stakeholders to ensure quality delivery of services at required levels.
  • Maintain required logs and program databases, ensuring they are always up‑to‑date.
  • Supervise and support staff around facilitation, health & safety, and youth development principles.
  • Ensure proper staff coverage for scheduled and unscheduled time off.
Family Engagement
  • Meet with parents and assist in planning and conducting staff and program orientation sessions.
  • Coordinate with the Program Director to provide family/caregiver support and resources.
Program Procedures and Safety
  • Comply with and enforce all health and safety guidelines set by FDC, the NYS Department of Health, NYC Department of Health, and the CDC.
  • Resolve incidents (medical or behavioral) quickly and appropriately, communicate with parents as necessary, and document incidents.
  • Ensure staff have required training and documentation, including SACC and NYC DOH license requirements, fingerprints, NYS Sex Offender and State Central Registry clearances, annual medical forms, mandated reporter training, and other contractual or licensing requirements.
Professional Development
  • Participate in meetings and workshops that enhance professional skills, including a minimum of 15 hours of training per year.
  • Work with program directors, staff developers, and educational specialists to develop professional skills.
  • Apply acquired skills and knowledge to improve program quality.
  • Assist the Program Director in designing a comprehensive professional development curriculum for staff.

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in education or related field preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience working with youth in a youth program setting.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience administering youth programs.
