Position Description:

The University of Louisville School of Nursing seeks to hire two term faculty members (PLEASE APPLY TO BOTH POSITIONS) at the rank of Assistant or Instructor with a strong teaching background and experience in adult health nursing. Faculty for these positions should have RN experience in acute and/or chronic adult health nursing. Experience in more than one specialty is desired.

Demonstrated excellence or recent education in teaching and learning pedagogy and adult learning principles will be essential. Leadership skills in working with diverse groups is crucial as is the academic credibility to garner respect from colleagues. The individual must possess excellent communication and collaboration skills and abilities, be flexible and nimble, and follow through on matters related to faculty and student success. This is a 10-month term position (starting August 1, 2025) in the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and accelerated second-degree BSN programs.

In addition to designing, implementing, and evaluating assigned theoretical and/or clinical experiences, faculty teaching in the undergraduate program are expected to participate in:
  • Planning, implementing, and updating the learning experiences and activities of the program
  • The designing, implementing, evaluating, and updating the curriculum
  • General advisement and guidance of students in meeting academic outcomes
  • Developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising academic policies
  • Developing, implementing, and revising assessment tools for course and/or clinical experiences
  • Evaluating and communicating student progress in meeting course and/or clinical objectives
  • Professional activities to maintain expertise in their assigned area(s) of teaching
  • Evaluating clinical agencies, as appropriate
  • Oversight of clinical faculty and/or preceptors, as assigned


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Experience in adult health nursing in acute and chronic medical/surgical, critical care, and/or public/community health
  • Effective teaching experience or recent education in multiple course delivery modalities, including online and hybrid.
  • Excellent presentation, writing, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered RN license to practice nursing in Kentucky.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in nursing, or related discipline. Applicants without a doctoral degree must commit to enrolling in a doctoral program after hire to be eligible for promotion.
  • Experience in multiple adult health clinical specialties, with at least 1 year experience in critical care.
  • Experience in course development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teaching scholarship.
  • Robust knowledge of salient research, effective pedagogical practices, adult learning theories, instructional design, higher education workforce trends, assessment techniques, scholarly research practices, teaching practices, and teaching technologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing face-to-face, hybrid, and online teaching and learning.
  • Experience in providing instruction and consulting with faculty on effective student-centered teaching and learning, teaching with technology, universal design for learning, and teaching in all modalities.
  • Experience developing curricular programming and educational programs with broad campus collaboration.
