Location: On-site at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, Baltimore, Maryland

The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy is conducting an open search for an Assistant Professor, tenure track, in the Department of Practice, Sciences and Health Outcomes Research. This position requires teaching, scholarly activity including publications and serving as principal investigator on externally-funded grants, and service to the department, school, campus, professional societies, and the public.

The position is a full-time, 12-month appointment based at our Baltimore campus. In addition to service and scholarly activity, this position will be responsible for serving as course manager for the Pharmacoeconomics & CER I course and teaching and/or serving as course manager for cost-effectiveness analysis, health economics and outcomes research in PharmD, MS and PhD courses as assigned by the department chair.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore campus houses schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Law, and Dentistry. The University of Maryland enjoys an excellent established record of accomplishment of successful collaboration for interprofessional practice and research collaborations with the other professional schools on campus.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research (P-SHOR). Teaching reporting responsibility is to the Chair of the Department through the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead cost-effectiveness and health economics and outcomes research instructional activities across academic programs at the school, supervise students; secure extramural funding; and actively support the vision and mission of the department, school and campus.

SCHOLARSHIP

• Scholarly activity is required; publication and presentation of work is expected.
• Conduct original research in cost-effectiveness analysis, health economics and outcomes research, health technology assessment, and pharmaceutical health services research.
• Secure funding for research projects.
• Develop interdisciplinary research collaborations with colleagues within the School of Pharmacy as well as with colleagues in the other professional schools across campus.
• Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
• Scholarly activity may be pursued either independently or in collaboration with others; however, serving as first author on manuscripts and principal investigator on funded grants is expected for successful progress towards promotion and tenure.

SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL, AND PUBLIC

• Participate in appropriate faculty activities (e.g., faculty assembly, department meetings, faculty committees) and other endeavors.
• Provide service to professional organizations, citizens of Maryland, and the public at large.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An earned PhD in Economics or equivalent degree with a strong focus on cost-effectiveness analysis and health economics and outcomes research. Excellent communication skills are essential. Evidence of scholarship is preferred.
