Work Modality: On site; Position is not remote

Position Summary

All Teaching Faculty members shall: Prepare and teach college-approved courses in accordance with approved course descriptions and class schedules, including developing syllabi and reading lists and keeping each course taught complete and up to date; respond to and work with multiple constituencies, including students, peers (faculty and staff), and external agencies (business, community, educational, etc.); perform divisional departmental responsibilities in the selection of texts and related teaching resources; and other teaching and related duties as outlined on the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or other administrator, the Assistant Professor is responsible for teaching thirty (30) credit hours per academic year and delivering a range of courses within the assigned discipline. Courses may be offered in lecture, hybrid, and/or online formats, and teaching schedules may include both day and evening classes.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Teaching courses within the assigned discipline area in accordance with institutional standards
  • Evaluating and assessing student learning outcomes
  • Providing student support, mentoring, and academic advising
  • Developing curriculum and periodically reviewing and updating instructional materials
  • Assisting with program reviews and accreditation-related activities
  • Planning and executing program-related events
  • Attending workshops, trainings, and/or professional conferences to maintain currency in the field
Program Coordinator duties include:
  • Recruit, advise, and retain students in designated program areas
  • Select appropriate part‑time instructors
  • Schedule program courses
  • Hire and evaluate faculty
  • Establish and cultivate partnerships with local organizations and employers
  • Arrange and supervise student internships
  • Assess, evaluate, and continuously improve the program
  • Perform other duties as appropriately assigned to a Program Coordinator, in accordance with contract hours and the collective bargaining agreement
  • Utilize release time, as specified in the collective bargaining agreement, to perform required administrative functions
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies
  • Service on assigned committees and task forces
  • Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, which may occur during evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • Four (4) years college teaching experience (96+ credits)
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including individuals with disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching Early Childhood Education courses (e.g., Introduction to Early Childhood Care and Education; Foundations of Child Development; Observation, Documentation, and Assessment of Young Children; Exceptional Learners; Language Development and Emergent Literacy in Young Children; Children, Families, and Communities; and/or Curriculum and Methods for Diverse Learners)
  • Experience and ability to align curriculum and assessment with CT and national early childhood standards
  • Experience leading or supporting NAEYC accreditation efforts at the higher education level
  • Experience applying the CT Core Knowledge and Competency (CKC) Framework in course and program design
  • Demonstrated collaboration with early childhood programs, public schools, or state agencies
  • Background in interdisciplinary or community partnerships that support early educator pathways
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish. CT State recognizes the imperative to effectively serve diverse students, faculty and staff. As such, the ability to communicate additional languages beyond English (e.g., ASL, Spanish, Arabic, Bosnian) is considered a preferred qualification for all student and community facing positions
  • Experience using technology to enhance the learning environment, e.g., Blackboard, online instruction or other modalities/software
Salary and Benefits
  • Salary $74,558 approximate annual
  • Because the start date for this position falls within the second semester of the academic year, bi-weekly pay will be prorated across the remaining pay periods. At the conclusion of this period, (start of the Fall semester) bi-weekly earnings will be adjusted to reflect the full annual salary applicable at that time
