Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions	Reporting to the Chair of the Orthodontics Department. The department is responsible for delivering comprehensive orthodontic content within the dental school's pre-doctoral and graduate curriculum, including didactic and clinical instruction in orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, various orthodontic treatment modalities, management of craniofacial anomalies, and orthognathic surgery. The Department of Orthodontics at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, invites applicants to apply for a full-time, teacher-clinician position; 4 days per week, 52 weeks per year. Pacific faculty engage in teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing CBCT interpretation and radiology reports for orthodontic patients, supervising clinical orthodontic care with an emphasis on craniofacial anomalies, and actively participating in the teaching and mentoring of residents. The candidate is also expected to contribute to research initiatives and provide service to the school and the broader professional community. Primary purpose: Primary areas of responsibility include active involvement in both graduate and pre-doctoral teaching, research, patient care, and service. Primary Responsibilities: I. Teaching Provide CBCT interpretation and report for orthodontic patients, along with consultations for residents and faculty. Deliver didactic and clinical instruction on 3D imaging and the orthodontic management of craniofacial anomalies to orthodontic residents. II. Patient Care Supervise residents in providing orthodontic care of patients with craniofacial anomalies Attend designated Craniofacial panels in San Francisco Bay Area, including those at Children's Hospital, Oakland, and Kaiser Hospital. III. Scholarship Supervise and participate in orthodontic resident's research projects Conduct research activities, seek grant funding, and contribute to scholarly publications. IV. Service Contribute to the dental school and professional community by participating in committees, school-wide activities, and local and regional professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications	Knowledge of: Curriculum management as it relates to 3D imaging and craniofacial orthodontics. Clinical management of all types of adult and adolescent orthodontic malocclusions, craniofacial anomalies patients, orthognathic surgery patients, and most widely used fixed appliances in current use. Education: DMD/DDS or equivalent and an Orthodontic Certificate and a Master of Science degree or its equivalent. Completion of a Specialty Program in Radiology and Board Eligible. Certificate of Craniofacial Orthodontics fellowship. At least three years of experience in research activities and/or have a PhD degree. Minimum three years of orthodontic practice experience for clinical instruction and supervision of patient care. Licenses/Certifications Active license to practice dentistry. Valid CPR certification.

Physical Requirements	GENERAL: Faculty should have sufficient motor function to execute movements essential to providing oral health care to patients. SPECIFIC: Must possess the motor skills to perform palpation, percussion, auscultation and other diagnostic maneuvers, basic laboratory tests, dental preparations, and diagnostic procedures in a timely manner. Such actions require coordination of gross and fine muscular movements, equilibrium, and functional uses of the senses of touch and vision. SPECIFIC: Must be able to perform basic life support including CPR, transfer and position patients with disabilities, physically restrain children who lack motor control, and position and reposition himself or herself around the patient and chair in sitting and standing positions for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to operate controls, use high-speed or low-speed dental handpieces for tooth preparation procedures, and use hand instrumentation including scalpels for surgical procedures. All of these skills must be performed within reasonable time frames.
Hiring Range	$120,000 - $150,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
