Assistant Professor of Practice in Costume Design/Costume Shop Manager

Beloit College Department of Performing and Applied Arts (PART) seeks an Assistant Professor of Practice in Costume Design/Costume Shop Manager beginning August 2025. PART is an innovative program in the School of Media and the Arts (SOMA). PART's mission seeks to merge theatre, dance, and music into ground-breaking interdisciplinary performances. We seek an individual interested in experimental approaches to design and performance, including collaborations with film and digital media.

Responsibilities

• This full-time, non-tenure track position involves designing costumes for department productions, managing the costume shop, supervising student workers, tracking the budget, and managing the Neese Historic Garment Collection.
• Teaching 3-4 relevant classes in performance costuming and collaboration, possibly including a capstone seminar.
• Current duties include designing or overseeing student designers for two plays or devised performances and managing costumes for the annual dance concert.
• Design responsibilities encompass research, presentations, realization within budget, and supervision of students.
• Participate in department season selection committees.

Credentials and experience:

• MFA with emphasis on Costume Design
• Ability to teach fashion, history, clothing across cultures, or related textile arts
• Experience designing for various periods and styles
• Experience in collaborative design, possibly including film/media
• Skills in shop management, costume construction, draping, pattern making, millinery, and makeup design
