  • Experience as university instructor or adjunct; track record across undergraduate/graduate levels.
  • Proficiency in specialized documentation tools and software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify core curriculum and electives, including labs.
  • Provide academic and career advising to forensic science students.
  • Supervise research projects, Capstone, or theses involving forensic techniques.

Assistant Professor of Practice - Forensic Science

University of New Haven is home to one of the oldest and well-respected forensic science programs in the United States. Our graduates can be located in forensic science laboratories throughout the US and abroad. We have newly renovated lab space as well as the recent addition of a high-tech Henry Lee Institute of Forensic Science facility. Modern equipment, including various DNA analysis platforms, SEM, XRD, Raman Spectroscopy, GC/MS, LEEDS comparison microscopy, etc. are available for teaching and research.

The Department of Forensic Science at the University of New Haven invites applications for a Non-Tenure-Track (NTT) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice. The successful candidate will be required to teach both undergraduate and graduate-level courses in forensic science, forensic scene investigation, and related topics. We are seeking a dedicated professional with a strong background in practical forensic scene investigation and reconstruction, active professional certifications, including IAI, POST, or other relevant certifications, and a commitment to excellence in university-level teaching and student mentorship. Special consideration will be given to candidates with proficiency in specialized documentation tools and software.

You will:

The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development and modification of existing and new core curriculum and electives, including laboratory-designated courses. The successful candidate will also be responsible for academic and career advising for undergraduate forensic science students. The successful candidate may supervise graduate/undergraduate research, Capstone, or thesis projects involving applied forensic techniques and technologies.

You need:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: A Master’s Degree (MS) in Forensic Science, Forensic Technology, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Teaching: Demonstrated capability or background delivering lectures, instruction, or training modules in forensic science topics.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Practical & Law Enforcement Background:
      • Extensive hands-on experience in law enforcement, active crime scene investigation, or leadership within a state/federal forensic services unit or crime laboratory.
      • Demonstrated expertise in forensic scene documentation, shooting reconstruction, 3D laser scanning, friction ridge examination, and evidence management.
  • Certifications:
    • Professional certifications through recognized bodies, such as the International Association for Identification (IAI) or vendor/technical certifications.
  • Teaching & Instruction Experience:
    • Prior experience as a university instructor, adjunct faculty member, guest lecturer, or academy trainer.
    • Track record of curriculum delivery across various levels of instruction (undergraduate, graduate, professional in-service, or cooperative workshops).
  • Specialized Knowledge:
    • Proficiency in specialized documentation tools and software
