Job summary

Alabama State University, College of Visual and Performing Arts, Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Dance. This is a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment.

The successful candidate will teach a range of courses, mentor students, contribute choreography to performances, and participate in service to the department and university. Teaching up to 10 credit hours per semester and maintaining a professional profile in dance are

Qualifications

• PhD or MFA in Dance and demonstrated university teaching experience required.
• Professional dance experience is desired.

Responsibilities

• Teach course syllabus for each level following institutional guidelines.
• Contribute choreography to BFA Dance Concerts and/or college-wide events.
• Advise and mentor students on choreographic, academic, and career matters.
• Attend college-wide, faculty, and departmental meetings and training sessions.
• Maintain an active professional profile in dance.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service expectations.
• Communicate effectively with faculty and students via email or Canvas.
• Maintain 10 office hours per week and/or by appointment.
• Teach 10 credit hours per semester.

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD or MFA degree in Dance and demonstrated university teaching experience are required. Professional dance experience is desired.
