Position Summary

Morehouse College, a historically Black liberal arts college dedicated to developing men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership and service, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science starting August 2025. Candidates who apply are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in assisting Black men and men of color from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to accomplish curricular goals. The successful candidate will be expected to support the College’s general education curriculum.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment (Aug 2025) from a full-time, accredited institution. ABD (All But Dissertation) Candidates will also be considered if the completion date is estimated by May 2026.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

● Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, with a focus on one or more of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence, High-Performance Computing, Data Science, and Visualization.
● Commitment to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands

● The ability to sit for extended periods of time at a computer is required.
● Must be able to read on a computer as necessary.
● Ability to walk at a mild pace and stand in class frequently.

Compensation

Teaching Responsibility

  • Teach and develop undergraduate courses in Computer Science, particularly in the areas of AI, HPC , Data Science, and Visualization.
  • Teaching general Computer Science courses will also be required.
  • Morehouse College has a 3/3 teaching load. The position’s responsibilities will include teaching introductory courses in computer science.

● Service: Participate in departmental, college, and professional service activities.
● Mentorship: Provide academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate students, particularly encouraging underrepresented groups to pursue computing careers and graduate studies.
