The Media, Culture & the Arts Department builds on a solid foundation in the liberal arts to guide students toward their academic goals while preparing them for a global society. MCA coursework develops expertise in the visual arts, music, media production, writing, communication, and modern languages.

Job Summary

Middle Georgia State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of communication to join our growing and student-centered media and communication program. The successful candidate will teach human communication, public speaking and other introductory courses that focus on mass communication, social media, and news writing. Upper-level courses will include communication theory, persuasion, media ethics and criticism, intercultural communication and more to support the bachelor¿s degree in media and communication. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to teach graduate courses to support the master¿s degree in public relations. This position involves teaching a 4/4 load, scholarship, and service.

Required Qualifications
Required Educational Qualifications

Doctoral degree in communication or a related field such as public relations, journalism or advertising

Required Experience

Online and face-to-face teaching experience

Other Required Qualifications

Demonstrated success in teaching college courses
Strong communication and collaborative skills

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience

Experience teaching lower-level courses such as human communication and public speaking
Experience teaching upper-level courses such as persuasion, rhetoric, and communication theory

Other Preferred Qualifications

Scholarship agenda focusing on media literacy, social media or artificial intelligence
Desire to develop coursework that focuses on social media and artificial intelligence
Ability to generate interest among students for on-campus organizations, clubs and events
