The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position of business analytics with a focus on applied artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML), starting in August 2026. The department seeks candidates with a completed doctorate degree in Information Systems, Operations Research, Computer Science (AI/ML), or related fields, with a business background or a focus on business applications. ABD candidates will also be considered, but the doctorate degree must be completed before the start date of the position.
Applicants should demonstrate an ability to produce scholarly work targeted at top academic journals and the potential to become an excellent teacher. While research excellence is paramount, we especially value candidates who express a willingness to engage, as their career progresses, in graduate and executive education (GEE) programs such as the MS in Business Analytics (MSBA), Executive MBA in Healthcare or Strategic Leadership, Physicians Executive MBA, and Aerospace and Defense MBA. Compensation will be highly competitive. Duties will include active research, teaching business-oriented analytics courses, advising students, and other service activities.

The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics is one of seven departments within the Haslam College of Business. The department currently offers bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. degrees in Business Analytics and leads UTK’s Intercollegiate Graduate Statistics and Data Science Program. The department’s MSBA program received the 2018 INFORMS Smith Prize. The Business Analytics faculty emphasizes working with businesses to apply analytics to real world challenges. The department includes 18 tenured or tenure-track faculty, many of whom serve in editorial positions at leading journals and have been recognized with international awards including the Edelman Award and the Wagner Prize.
