Job description

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), faculty position in the Center for Advanced Cardiopulmonary Therapies and Transplantations, Division of Advanced Heart Failure. The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through clinical practice, research, teaching, and administrative activities.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The faculty in Advanced Cardiopulmonary Therapies and Transplantations (ACTAT) will be responsible for assisting in the development of an academic and clinical Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiopulmonary Support, and Transplantation Program. Your main focus will be on Interventional Cardiology. Other duties will include seeing patients in the clinic, participating in research projects, and being involved in educational activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the ACTAT Center for Advanced Heart Failure practice at various Memorial Hermann and UT Physician locations in Houston and surrounding areas, including participation in a UTHealth Houston Physicians Cardiology group
    call team for coverage
  • Providing feedback regarding office operations including hiring staff, office
    logistics and new physician recruitment.
  • Participating in the education and training of medical students and residents and fellows
  • Supporting the research mission of the department and university through:
  • Facilitating reasonable and appropriate access to patients by research staff.
  • Assisting when requested with the collection of research data including biological specimens; and
  • Providing information and education on ongoing research studies to potentially eligible research subjects.
    Identifying patient and family needs of the populations served; recommending and/or developing new programs and services to meet those needs; assuring that age-specific equipment, supplies, and educational resources are available for assigned units/services.
  • Collaborating with UTHealth Houston and hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities, and define the direction of department services; developing, and implementing plans to achieve identified goals, including OR efficiency, productivity, and patient throughput targets across the care continuum.
  • Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan and process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing and implementing unit unit-specific standards, policies, and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assessing and improving assigned departments' performance while enhancing service.
  • Reviewing appropriate financial reports and making appropriate modifications in UTHealth and MHH to reduce costs associated with supplies, staffing, and service agreements and/or identify sound alternatives for purchasing equipment and supplies.
  • Participating in and/or chairing committees, workgroups, and meetings as appropriate.
  • Assuring interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active, maintained, and ongoing. Following up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily handled. Collaborating to maintain a focus on providing excellent clinical services.
  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research.
  • Supervising a highly specialized clinical team of direct care providersand administrative staff.

Qualifications:

  • Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong potential for a leadership role within the department.
