Position Title Assistant Professor in Statistics

Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Statistics at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of September 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic appointment (September 16 - June 15) for a three-year, renewable term beginning September 16, 2027.

The base salary range for this position will be $13,888 - $15,555 per month ($125,000 - $140,000 per year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Maintain an active, high-impact research program in statistical science, broadly construed.


• Pursue external grant funding to support research activities and graduate student training.


• Demonstrate excellence in the instruction of foundational and advanced statistics courses.


• Provide substantive service contributions to the department, university, and the broader professional community.

Position Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in Statistics, Biostatistics, or any related field by the start of the appointment. We seek applications from candidates with a research record in any area of statistics. This includes (but is not limited to) theoretical statistics, statistical methodology, stochastic modeling, computational statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics education, and/or applications of statistics in the physical sciences, biomedical sciences, engineering, and/or social sciences.

Salary Range $13,888 - $15,555 per month for 9-month
