Assistant Professor in Neurology - Research

The Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) is seeking to recruit for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in Neurology for a new research faculty position. Augusta University has launched an initiative to recruit new faculty in the fields of inflammaging and brain aging to perform research to improve outcomes for those suffering from cerebral vascular aging and neurodegenerative disorders. The tenure status (on tenure track, tenure upon appointment, or not on tenure track) will be determined based on the qualifications of the final candidate and will be confirmed in the final offer along with position expectations.

Responsibilities

Research & Funding:

  • Establish vigorous independent research programs that are extramurally funded to complement the research strengths and goals of the department and university.
  • Collaborate and participate in joint grant submissions and include other AU investigators as part of the Transdisciplinary Research initiative in Inflammaging and Brain Aging (TRIBA).
  • Teach in the School of Medicine and/or The Graduate School and mentor graduate and medical students.
  • Collaborate with other TRIBA faculty to host educational events such as journal clubs, seminars, and other interactive meetings.
  • Provide national, regional, local and institutional service.
Required Qualifications

MD, PhD, or equivalent.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Rank and salary are determined at the time of hire and are based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, education, credentials, specialty, training, etc. while also considering internal equity and market data.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at Augusta University is only through the annual Promotion and Tenure process in which faculty may apply if eligible (typically five-year increments).
