The College of Science and Mathematics, Biological Sciences department at Augusta University (AU), responding to enrollment growth in recent years, is actively seeking multiple candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor, anticipating beginning in the Fall of 2024. Primary duties include teaching AU students on topics in Biological Sciences courses such as Principles of Biology, Environmental Biology, and/or Anatomy & Physiology. These positions also include a service and research component to strengthen our undergraduate programs. These positions are not considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities
  1. Teaching – 80%: teaching and coordinating Biology courses as assigned.
  2. Research – 10%: conducting research and other scholarly activities that involve undergraduate science majors.
  3. Service – 10%: performing service on committees and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. or similar terminal degree in a discipline of Biological Science or a closely related field, with expertise to teach courses such as Principles of Biology, Botany, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Biology, and/or Anatomy & Physiology.
  • Assistant Professor – early career faculty member.
  • Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks:
    • Consistency with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements.
    • Evidence of ability as a teacher.
    • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability to perform all other duties assigned.
    • Successful experience (waived for those just entering the profession who meet all other requirements).
    • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching Biology at the undergraduate/college level and coordinating courses and instructional laboratories.

Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in the offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full‑time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor – salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
