Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati's Blue Ash College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of United States history and environmental history, intended to begin in August 2025. The candidate's main responsibility will be teaching surveys in US history and environmental history, with potential additional courses in urban or public history. The teaching load will be 12 credit hours in 2 semesters (4/4).


Essential Functions

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate history courses including but not limited to the introductory United States history surveys, environmental history, and urban or public history.

  • Create courses and teach in both online and in-person formats. Online instruction should meet the standards of the Quality Matters rubric.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development and research in history or the scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Service duties such as participating in the governance and committee work of the department, college, and university such as but not limited to discussions of curriculum, creation of policies for the college and University, and attendance at committee meetings.


Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, all of the following are required:




  • PhD in History or a closely related field

  • Four courses of collegiate level History teaching experience, which must include one survey course in US History, and at least one course of online teaching and one course of in-person teaching

  • One of the following:

    • Experience teaching one environmental history course at the collegiate levelOR

    • One publication or presentation in the area of environmental history

* A curriculum vitae

* A statement of interest, including introduction to candidate's research focus, goals, and a discussion of teaching philosophy (that is, approach to teaching and strategies of learning)

* Three (3) letters of recommendation

* Copies of syllabi from the candidate's most recent US History survey course. In addition, the candidate should include any courses taught in environmental history (if applicable). Sample syllabi should be labeled as such.

* Doctoral transcripts on the graduate level
