Description

The Department of Philosophy at Stony Brook University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Philosophy starting Fall 2026.

AOS: Environmental Philosophy
AOC: At least one of the following: Ethics; Social and Political Philosophy; Phenomenology;Philosophy of Science; Philosophy of Technology; Indigenous Philosophies; Aesthetics.

The Department, which has strengths in Continental Philosophy and the History of Philosophy, is especially interested in philosophical and historical approaches to climate change, climate justice, and the relation between wilderness and the built environment. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to communicate beyond the discipline; and will contribute a crucial philosophical perspective to the Stony Brook Collaborative for the Earth and the New York Climate Exchange, for which Stony Brook serves as the anchor institution.

The position involves designing and teaching a range of undergraduate courses in addition to specialized graduate seminars (2/2 teaching load), dissertation and thesis supervision, and standard non-teaching duties.
