Assistant Professor, Cluster Hires in Biology: Integrative Biology

Department of Biology – Appalachian State University – Boone, North Carolina. Tenure‑track, rank of Assistant Professor. Position to begin in Fall 2027. Application deadline: 08/31/2026 (Open Until Filled).

Position Summary

We are hiring two assistant‑professor‑level faculty in the Integrative Biology concentration. Candidates will develop a competitive research program combining integrative techniques with evolutionary, ecological, and climate change questions in plant and animal systems. They will also design and teach courses and advise undergraduate and master’s students.

Responsibilities
  • Teach required and elective courses in the candidate’s specialty, including evolution, ecology, global change ecology, plant physiology, and first‑year biology sequence topics.
  • Develop and deliver face‑to‑face and online instruction for large lecture and small discussion classes.
  • Plan and supervise undergraduate and master’s research projects.
  • Advising students on academic progress and career development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on department, college, and university affairs.
  • Participate in faculty mentoring and professional development programs.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field with postdoctoral experience (no ABD consideration).
  • Expertise or strong interest in integrative approaches to host‑pathogen/symbiont interactions, disease ecology, climate change impacts on species interactions, or comparative responses across lineages.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach courses in biology at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for teaching, advising, and collaboration.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
