Job summary

UTMB Faculty Group Practice is seeking a research-oriented Neuropathologist to provide clinical Anatomic Pathology services with a primary focus in Neuropathology and Autopsy. The role includes directing the Institutional Biorepository and Research Histology service, and collaborating with the Moody Brain Health Institute and Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical Anatomic Pathology services with a primary focus in Neuropathology and Autopsy.
  • Director the Institutional Biorepository and Research Histology service.
  • Collaborate with Moody Brain Health Institute and Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in support of the Brain Bank and interdisciplinary programs.
  • Teach and mentor Pathology residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including research, publications, and presentations at meetings.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees and service duties.

Job description

Essential Job Functions

The successful candidate will be a research-oriented Neuropathologist who will provide clinical Anatomic Pathology services with a primary focus in Neuropathology and Autopsy. In addition, this faculty member will serve as Director of the Institutional Biorepository and Research Histology service. He or she will also work closely with colleagues in the Moody Brain Health Institute and the Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in support of the Institutional Brain Bank and interdisciplinary research programs in Neurological diseases. A strong commitment to education is expected, with responsibilities for teaching and mentoring Pathology residents, fellows, and medical students. Active participation in intra- and inter-departmental conferences will be required, as well as meaningful engagement in the advancement of scholarly activities, including research, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings. The successful candidate will also contribute to the mission of the department and institution through participation in departmental and institutional committees, as well as other service and administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or MD, PhD
  • Fellowship-trained and board-eligible or board-certified in Anatomic and Neuropathology or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates with established independent research programs are encouraged to apply. Interest and expertise in neurodegenerative diseases is desirable.
Salary

Commensurate with experience.
