An established industry player in cancer care is looking for a dedicated ophthalmologist to join their team. This role involves providing exemplary patient care, engaging in clinical research, and contributing to educational programs for trainees. KEY FUNCTIONS
Practices ophthalmology in an exemplary manner, upholding standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, balanced with other academic activities. Must be able to identify and solve problems related to job responsibilities using knowledge and experience. Must communicate effectively (verbal and written) and relate well to others at the medical, professional, technical, and administrative levels.
Develops and maintains a clinical ophthalmology practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
a. Provides physician staffing for the inpatient service at a level comparable to other ophthalmologists with similar training and experience. Follows all inpatients as needed until discharge or handover to a subspecialist.
b. Reviews, evaluates, and correctly interprets medical records and patient data based on training, experience, and knowledge.
c. Completes ICD-10 and CPT coding on clinic charge cards within 24 hours.
d. Documents patient information in medical records according to institutional standards and timelines, including dictation and review of documents.
e. Corresponds in writing or via telephone with referring physicians or other involved physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
f. Keeps current with advances in patient management through attendance at continuing education conferences.
g. Requests appropriate medical consultations through phone or written communication.
3. Provides medical direction to non-physician personnel (Ophthalmic Technicians, Patient Coordinators, Registered Nurses).
a. Responsible for all aspects of ophthalmologic care for each patient.
b. Delegates technical functions to non-physician personnel based on their education, training, and skills.
2. Education/Teaching
Contributes to a comprehensive ophthalmology educational program for trainees.
1. Completes evaluations for rotating residents promptly.
2. Develops and implements continuing education programs in ophthalmology.
3. Participates in departmental teaching and conferences, presenting lectures with visual aids.
3. Research
Engages in clinical translational research and scholarly activities to support the department's academic environment.
1. Develops research programs aligned with departmental goals.
2. Seeks funding through grant applications and manages budgets.
3. Publishes or presents research findings in a timely manner.
4. Administration
Serves on institutional and hospital committees, attends meetings, and provides feedback. Assumes administrative duties as assigned by the Department Chairman.
