GENERAL DUTIES:
Provides clinical expertise in patient care and multidisciplinary management of colon and rectal surgical patients referred for care in a multi-campus academic practice setting. Participates in the advancement of clinical, research, and educational programs as well as faculty administrative matters within the department.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Clinical Service
- Provide high-quality, collaborative, multidisciplinary care of patients with colorectal diseases and practice clinical surgery in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American Board of Surgery, properly balanced with other academic activities.
- Engage in activities to promote practice growth throughout the department/institution's catchment areas.
- Promote the department/institution in local, regional, state, and national meetings in the field of colon and rectal surgical oncology and related diseases.
- Support targeted clinical programmatic initiatives of the department.
II. Research
- Actively engage in clinical (including outcomes), translational, basic science, or education research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment and advance the programmatic objectives of the department and the institution.
- Seek appropriate intramural and extramural funding mechanisms to support research activities through the development of grant proposals.
- Develop collaborative activities in the specific area of research interest.
- Document research findings through the publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national meetings.
III. Education/Teaching
- Attend and actively participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences including but not limited to Grand Rounds, Morbidity & Mortality, multidisciplinary treatment, and surgical planning conferences.
- Provide a teaching environment in outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings for fellows, residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers across the MD Anderson network.
IV. Administration, Service, & Quality
- Serve on departmental, divisional, and institutional committees as requested by the Chairman.
- Complete appropriate paperwork or documents in a timely manner as required by institutional or departmental policy.
- Actively participate in departmental clinical programs or meetings including retreats and department-sponsored conferences.
- Adhere to all institutional and medical staff policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Support and actively participate in advancing departmental and institutional objectives across the MD Anderson Cancer Network.
- Support and actively participate in advancing high reliability, quality, and safety within the department/institution.
This position has a target base salary of $349,749 to $419,998 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role and department mission
- Licensed to practice in the State of Texas
- Board certified in General Surgery and either Colon and Rectal Surgery or Complex General Surgical Oncology (or obtained within departmental timeline), unless exempted
- Five years post-clinical degree with any combination of time as a clinician, clinical scientist, or GME trainee
- Curriculum Vitae representative of prior scholarly and/or service accomplishments commensurate with faculty appointment within the department.
