Position Overview: The Department of Biological Sciences in the Fairmount College ofLiberal Arts and Sciences at Wichita State University invitesapplications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position inBiomedical Sciences. We seek applicants with teaching and researchexpertise in the fields of Microbiology, Virology, Genetics, and/orParasitology. The successful candidate will be expected to teachundergraduate and graduate courses, develop a productive researchprogram, and provide service to the university and profession. Thisposition is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date ofAugust 2, 2027.

Department Description: The Department of Biological Sciences offers majors in Biology witheither an Ecological/Environmental/Organismal or a Biomedicalemphasis. There are approximately 340 undergraduate majors and thedepartment’s Master of Science in Biology program currentlyincludes 19 graduate students. There are 11 faculty members andseven full-time departmental support staff/administrators. Thedepartment is committed to excellence in teaching, research, andstudent success. The department is an affiliate of the Kansas IdeaNetwork of Biomedical Research Excellence (K-INBRE). It housesmodern laboratory space that includes analytical/molecular and cellculture equipment, microscopy and protein chemistry corefacilities, an accredited animal facility, and access to the KansasState University and Wichita State University High PerformanceComputing clusters.

Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levelin the candidate’s area of expertise. This includes designingcurriculum, delivering high-quality instruction, and assessingstudent learning. The faculty member will mentor and advisestudents, including supervising undergraduate and M.S. researchprojects.

Research/Scholarly Activity

Establish and maintain an active, externally funded researchprogram in Microbiology, Virology, Genetics, and/or Parasitologyinvolving undergraduate students and M.S. graduate students. Thisincludes publishing peer reviewed scholarly work and disseminatingresults in academic venues.

Service

Participate in service activities within the department, college,and university, as well as in professional organizations. Serviceduties include committee work, curriculum development, programassessment, student recruitment, and community outreach. Thefaculty member will contribute to the governance and strategicinitiatives of the department and may also engage in service to thebroader profession.

Other

Fulfill other duties as assigned, in accordance with the facultymember’s talents and departmental needs. All Wichita State facultyare expected to uphold professional and ethical standards inteaching, research, and service.

Job Summary

• Teaching experience

Faculty Requirements

• PhD in Biology or related field and must be completed prior toAugust 2027.
• Teaching experience is broadly defined i.e. teachingassistantships, mentoring, participation in course lectures, etc.Please clarify in your teaching statement.
